More Than 1 Webkinz
By Neena on Jul 24, 2007 in Children of All Ages
My children used to have one webkinz each. That was enough for us. But last week as we entered one of our favorite stores, we were accosted by a huge Webkinz display that featured some of the cutest Webkinz ever - we could not resist. And so we entered the world of multiple Webkinz.
Each of my kids signed into their account and adopted their new Webkinz. This process effectively extended their memberships to Webkinz World to one year from the date of registration - ie July 2008. Great!
So now the kids sat down to play online with their new found pets. They assumed having two pets meant 2 gem hunts, 2 spins on the wheel of wow, 2 wishing wells, etc. Not so!!!!! The only benefit of the second pet is an extra room, welcome gift, and intial deposit of kinzcash.
This was quite a rude awakening. Even though you now have two pets to feed and care for, you still only get 1 of each of those priveleges. Hmmm. I was even surprised. Considering that I just paid full price for the second pet.
I couldn’t help but draw paralells to “real” life. For every extra child you have, you may get a few gifts to welcome the baby, but your current salary will now need to cover the expenses of the new family member.
Ultimately, the most cost effective strategy for Webkinz is to adopt your new pet at the time that your original pet’s contract expires. This translates to buying 1 Webkinz per year in order to renew your Webkinz World membership. But, in the meantime, you must resist the cuteness factor!

You are on a slippery slope - no one can stop with just one! My daughter got two for her birthday and I am afraid that we are now up to 10….
But, I have found that they are a great motivating tool. She is happy to do a lot of summer reading to get points towards a new webkinz, and they are cute…as long as you put them all to bed before you log out they stay happy and well fed.
I like that she plays with the ‘real’ webkinz a lot too, or is this all just rationalization??

My kids also enjoy playing with the stuffed animal - so I, too, rationalize the expense. They really are cute!

Webkinz fever has hit our house too. Unfortunately, I find it annoying that my kids that used to love playing outside now just want to get online.
I think we’ll hold off on #2 until the cold weather hits. They are cute- I just wish I had thought of the idea! LOL!

Karen and Kate,
My youngest son actually enjoys playing with the stuffed animals just as much as playing with their virtual counterparts. The stuffed animals are adorable, perhaps even more than many non-Webkinz toys.

We’ve also fallen for the Webkinz craze, with 2 kids, ages 10 & 7. That’s all they want to buy with their allowance and grade report money, and that’s the only kind of ‘pet’ they can have right now. The play with the stuffed animals and online, with their friends. The Webkinz have become our favorite birthday present to give — two years ago, it was the Groovy Girls!
So, Neena, now that it’s almost 4 months later — how many grand-Webkinz do you have now?!
And have you seen the Christmas Reindeer? Too cute!!
