A New Direction for NeenMachine.com

This website will be turning 1 year old in February and I am at a crossroads. When I ventured onto the net 11 months ago, I was a complete “newbie”. I knew nothing about website building and all the stuff that goes along with it. Having spent the last 11 years mastering the field of parenting, I decided to focus my site on parenting tips.

In the 11 months since I wrote my first post, I have not only been writing, but I have created more than one website. I have experimented with a lot of different platforms and business models but nothing inspired me. Even writing about parenting became tedious, my heart wasn’t in it.

I would like to say that at that point I had an “aha!” moment. But no, I am much to practical for that.

What I did realize is that while parenting is what I do 24 hours a day, the reason why I started a website was to learn something new and to escape, if you will, from my daily grind.

Don’t get me wrong – I really do love my children and being a mom is my priority, but writing about diapers and bad (or good) behavior and picky eaters and all that other parenting fun stuff is not my passion.

Building my websites has been time consuming and something that I enjoy but my ultimate goal has been to turn my websites into part time work. And in order to qualify as part time work, they need to generate a part time income.

Accomplishing my part time work goal is not easy, especially not with 4 children to manage as well. In fact, working from home is one of the biggest challenges that I face. For those that are curious, I don’t have household help or childcare. Yep, it’s just me trying to juggle it all.

And that is what I want to write about – the challenges that work at home moms face and resources for work at home moms. Sure, that will still encompass articles on family life and kids, after all they are part of the work at home experience.

I actually feel a sense of relief. Now that I have a sense of direction for this site I am very excited to move ahead.

I definitely agree with that sentiment. It’s like working at McDonald’s and then coming home and cooking up burgers and fries. And there seems to be a lot more support via blogville for SAHM’s than for WAHM’s and working moms.

I completely understand the “escape” and needing a creative outlet and sometimes that comes without direction at first. I wish you the best and please drop me a line if you need a resource or friend – I was a SAHM and am now a WAHM and know how hard it is without daycare or in-home help. Why do we do it??

Good for you. I am glad you have decided that you were going to change. I think it is amazing hard perhaps but still a great thing. I am here if you need any help.

Michelle and Tamara,
Thank you both for your words of support. It is nice to know that others understand how I am feeling. Sometimes you do need to start a project without clear direction and watch it evolve.
