Child Won’t Sleep
Posted by Neena on 05/31/08 in Children of All Ages, Parenting Tips
We have heard all about tricks and techniques for getting babies to sleep. Everyone has an “it worked for me” story. I may even post one or two parenting tips of my own about how to get little ones to sleep through the night.
But today that isn’t my problem. I only wish it were that simple. No - today my ten year old won’t sleep. Shall I say my patience is wearing a bit thin?
Parenting tips, anyone?

oh dear. i feel for you. my eleven year old sometimes does the same thing. He is quiet in his room but still, he needs to sleep! I do not like to go to bed until he is asleep ( i know, i’m weird) but i tell ya, by 11:30 i have HAD it!
i have no cure, no tips, only compassion. we DID cut down on his sugar/sweet intake and that made no difference. he’s just wired, i suppose.

Mannequin,
I appreciate the commiseration - thankfully things went a bit better tonight. I am still open to ideas though, especially with summer vacation around the corner - without a system in place, every night could become a late night!

1 out of every 4 children has nightmares more than once a week. Most nightmares happen very late in the sleep period (usually between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m.). Your child may wake up and come to you for comfort. Usually, he or she will be able to tell you what happened in the dream and why it was scary. Your child may have trouble going back to sleep. Your child might have the same dream again some other night.
This is one of the main reasons for insomnia in children.
