I just received a copy of the book Olivia Acts Out to review – and what a treat it was! For those of you not familiar with Olivia the Pig – she is the star of the Olivia TV series on NickJr.
This particular book is the print version of the first episode of the show. Olivia’s class is putting on a school play and she desperately wants the leading role of the Fairy. As the teacher assigns the roles – it is apparent that a classmate – Francine – will be playing the leading lady. No problem – because Olivia will be happy to settle for the second biggest part. But once again the teacher has other plans and casts Olivia in the role of Cow Number Two.
As parents – we have all been there. I remember my fifth grade play. I wanted to be the fairy princess so badly – but instead I was cast in the role of narrator. NARRATOR! Can you believe it? I didn’t even have a costume. I truly feel for Olivia!
But – for a little pig – Olivia is precocious and has a lot of spunk. When life gives you lemons – you make lemonade. And that is exactly what Olivia does. Not satisfied with performing as a cow with only one line – “MOO”, Olivia spices up her role by jumping over the moon and helping her friend overcome a bit of stage fright in the process.
Not only is Olivia Acts Out an entertaining read – it is a gorgeous addition to the library as well. Enclosed within a sturdy, flocked cover – the glossy, embossed pages are a joy to read and will stand up to the demands of little hands.
If you enjoy this book, you may also want to check out some of the other titles in the series as well.
