Having a child who graduates from school is a big event — especially at the high school and college levels.
No matter what your budget, you’ll want to do at least something to commemorate that great achievement! If you have the money to hire a DJ, caterer, florist and even a party planner, consider yourself fortunate. If you’re like the rest of us, though, those luxuries may be out of reach. But that’s okay; creativity can make up for a lack of money virtually every time. If you find yourself in that position, the following graduation party tips will help kick-start your creativity and throw a fun and fabulous graduation party your guests will never forget:
Make Your Own Graduation Party Invitations
Needless to say, graduation party invitations cost money, especially if you’re planning to invite a big crowd. So why not just make your own? There are plenty of sites on the Internet that offer free graduation party invitations; just download the invitation you like and print as many as you need. It’s best to get as many as you can on a page, so you can save card stock. Also, if you’ll be mailing the invitations and the artwork doesn’t come pre-sized, paste it into a word processing document and print a test copy to make sure the finished invitation will fit into a standard envelope. If it doesn’t, just re-size the artwork and keep printing test copies until the size is perfect.
Make the Party Decorations
There’s plenty of free graduation clip art online that can be used to create low-cost but attractive decorations. You can make signs to hang on the walls or cut out smaller pieces of clip art, attach them to pipe cleaners and stick them in plants or flower arrangements. If your celebration will include a sit-down meal, you can also use the clip art to create menu cards, napkin rings, place cards and even origami party favors. Graduation scrapbook paper would also work great for many of these decorations.
Share the Cooking
An auspicious occasion like a graduation is a great time to ask your relatives and friends to step up and help with the food preparation. Ask people that you know can cook well to bring their signature dishes, which will ensure you’ll have a memorable selection. Everyone else can join in the pot luck by buying items from the grocery store. Keep a list of who’s bringing what, so you know you’ll have enough of everything.
Implementing just these three suggestions can save you a bundle when it comes to throwing a graduation party. But don’t worry; inexpensive doesn’t have to mean cheap. Just bring your creativity to the party, so to speak, and you’ll probably be surprised by what you can accomplish!
