I am a big fan of Mama Kat’s writing prompts. Every week on or about Tuesday she posts a list of thought provoking questions and our assignment is to choose one and write about it. On Thursday we are to head back over to her site and add the url of our post to list of all those that are participating.
I love this idea for a couple of reasons. First it gets those creative juices flowing when I face writer’s block and second it builds a community of (mostly) women that are looking to promote their sites and their online businesses. Stop on over – pick a question and start writing! On Thursday – take some time out to visit a bunch and comment, comment, comment!
The question that I chose for this week is: Describe a snappy comeback.
Typically, I am not quick enough for snappy comebacks. I think too much before I speak. After all I wouldn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings or have my facts out of whack.
But my kids are a different story. And just listening to them is proof that they are watching too many sassy TV shows (whatever happened to the Brady Bunch?).
If your house is anything like mine – bickering amongst siblings is an uphill battle. Yesterday, my 12 year old son must have irked my six year old daughter. Because suddenly she was telling him that he was an ugly something or another. He responded back that she was uglier than something else. And so on and so forth.
I was just about to intervene when he responded with this kicker “Well, you are so ugly that if Medusa looked at you – she would turn to stone!”
Hmmmm, good one. Apparently my daughter thought so too – because she let the argument go at this point. How do you respond to that?
Oh – and if you too are at your wits end – here are some parenting tips to stop kids fighting. Good Luck!

As a high school English teacher, I can appreciate the epithet! Sounds like he’s been studying, anyway. And you know, I think there are a whole lot worse things a bickering child can say, correctamundo? SITS sent me by, and I’m glad they did!

And I am glad that they did as well! As far as the comeback – I had the same reaction as you. Should I have been angry or impressed? Luckily the situation resolved itself.
You must have been that fly of the wall I swatted just the other day! My teenage daughter does the same thing to her younger brother. I especially love when I am driving and I hear from behind me, “Stop touching me!” This from someone who will be 17 next week. Oh well, just makes me cherish the times when they do get along well all the more.

It seems we have a lot in common! And when I heard 17 I just let out a long, weary ***sigh***. No end in sight I suppose.
That’s a total zinger! I would have just started throwing things at that point! There’s no other way to retaliate.

Must agree with you there!
I will have to remember that one for sure.
Oh my gosh. That is a good one. I’m pretty good with comebacks, but sometimes my heart just isn’t in it and I won’t think of something until hours after the fact. I hate it when that happens.

I am exactly the same. Guess I wasn’t born with that quick wit!
Just stopped by from mama kat’s…why do I feel like kids are always more witty than me? If my daughter is anything like my husband (which I know she will be) I am going to be in for some MAJOR trouble with witty comebacks…maybe I just think too much…I am also impressed your 6 year old knew who Medusa was!

Haha! Gotta love the kid fights. Sometimes they say the funniest things.

I too was impressed. Still not sure whether she knew who Medusa was or just had no retort in her repetoire. Either way – she knew when to fold ‘em.

The inspiration for my post! So happy that you stopped by – and yes, what the kids say is definitely fodder for interesting blogging.
