The Battle of the Baby Birds
Every spring we have birds nesting on our deck in the most impossible places.
They love the ledge created by a retractable awning, the miniscule area behind light fixtures, and the ones above found a home behind an outdoor speaker.
Why they like our deck so much, I have no idea.
But as cute as they are – we have been foster parents to enough baby birds and we don’t want to do it anymore.
The thing is – they make a mess.
I cannot tell you what the siding looks like behind their nest – but you can just imagine.
And lately they have suffered from overcrowded conditions.
Yes. Overcrowding in the nest.
It is rather tragic. For about a week we would wake up daily to find a “recently departed” baby bird lying on the deck. Clearly having fallen out of the nest due to lack of space.
We have tried just about everything to stop them from nesting.
We placed netting in these awkward places only to have the birds push it away.
We have tied pie tins to the wall – hoping the noise would deter our furry friends.
And my husband even enlisted the help of a great big plastic owl – that did nothing but scare our guests away.
At this point – any suggestions would be very helpful!
