CVS ExtraBucks

Wanted: CVS ExtraBucks Advice

Who doesn’t like to save money?

I have been reading lots about Extreme Couponing.

Yes. It is a sport. And it is very addictive.

I told you about the book that I read (How to Shop for Free – the author has an awesome website too – HowToShopForFree.net)

Anyhow, I saved a bundle this weekend using coupons from the Sunday paper at the grocery store.

So I decided to step it up a notch and try the whole ExtraBucks thing at CVS.

Reluctantly, I might add.

I’ve read a lot about it – but it just seemed so complicated. So I gave up without really trying.

But after my success at the grocery store – I decided to give it a go.

I started out small.

Yesterday, I bought the Skinny Cow candy bar using a buy 1 get 1 free mfg coupon. Each one costs .99 plus tax. And if you buy one you get .99 in ExtraBucks.

So now with $1.05 out of pocket I had 2 candy bars and a .99 CVS ExtraBucks coupon.

Today, I headed back to CVS with 2 buy 1 get one free coupons for Axe deodorant and bath gel.

These products were on sale for $4.49 each and if you bought 3 you got a coupon for $3 in ExtraBucks.

So, I bought four (actually I paid for 2 and got 2 free) – then used my .99 ExtraBucks on top of that.

I’m not sure how it all played out but in the end I ended up paying under $6 out of pocket for 4 Axe products and a $3 ExtraBucks coupon. I think that the free products came off at regular price.

I was pretty psyched! But the checkout guy seemed a bit incredulous.

So, I’m trying to get the hang of this but I still can’t get my head around it.

First, it seems like I will need to make, like, a bazillion trips to CVS to really get anywhere with this method.

For example, now I have $3 CVS Extrabucks. There is a tube of toothpaste that I have a $1 mfg coupon for and this tube will give me $3 more EB’s. It costs $4.99.

So – if I go to CVS and buy the toothpaste I will be $1 out of pocket but I will still have the $3 EB when I am done.

Then, a gallon of milk has a $1 EB – limit 2.

So, if I go back yet again I can buy 2 milks for $7 use the $3 EB and get $2 EB.

So you see – my EB’s start to go down.

I just can’t see far enough ahead to where I have a large amount of CVS ExtraBucks.

If any of you are CVS experts – I would greatly appreciate it if you could explain this to me!
