Blank Chore Charts

An essential parenting tool is a good set of blank chore charts.

If your house is anything like mine – then come 3 o’clock daily – there is usually a flurry of activity.  To maintain some semblance of order in the home, it is important for the kids to help out with daily chores. But keeping track of what they actually accomplish is a different story. As the kids get older, their schedules become more demanding and I am constantly on the go. So come bedtime, things that I wanted them to do didn’t get done – because they didn’t remember and I did not have time to follow through.

To help this lack this of short term memory that we all are seemingly suffering from, I needed some blank chore charts printed out and in the kitchen where I could easily access them.

Here is a simple one that I created – feel free to download and print it out.

I use this kind of blank template in a variety of ways. But typically, I will make a list of everything that I want my son or daughter to accomplish of a daily basis. The tasks can range from practicing his instrument, to taking out the trash, to brushing his teeth.

If all of the items apply to every single day – then my child will simply put a check in the appropriate column when he completes the task. If the chore does not happen every day (for example – taking out the trash might be a once a week activity) then I will put checkmarks in the appropriate columns so the kids can see when they are supposed to do a particular chore. When they actually do it – then I have some small stickers that they stick on top of my checkmarks which makes it more fun, especially for younger kids. They can also use a different color pen or crayon to show that they finished the task.

Sometimes I even use these kids chore charts for a particular project that they need to get done. If there is a big homework assignment due at the end of the week – we will pull one of these out and list the steps that they need to do every day in order to hand the work in on time.

One of the chore chart ideas i have found recently is a great free online chore chart. You can enter in your kids chores and set up rewards that they can earn. Its all online so you dont have to worry about printing off charts or making elaborate systems, its great and kids love it!
