Baby Advice

Newborn babies have tender sensitive skin, so newborn baby clothes should be soft and non scratchy to make sure that your infant will be comfortable. Babies are too small to let you know exactly what is wrong when they cry, so you may not realize that their clothes are causing a problem.

Most parents of newborns are anxious to show off their new babies, so they want to dress them in cute baby clothes when they go out or when people come to visit. They love to hear others remark about how adorable their babies look, and they may not stop to think about how a pretty dress with scratchy lace feels on that soft skin. They should take care to ensure that the clothing they put on their newborn babies is comfortable for those helpless little ones.

To prevent choking, newborn baby clothes should not have ribbons or ties that are long enough to become wrapped around a baby’s neck. Griper snaps or Velcro are better than buttons or zippers for fastening baby clothes. Buttons could come loose and be swallowed, and zippers could pinch the baby’s skin.

Sleepers should be flame retardant, but they should not have a chemical odor that might irritate a small child. If possible, choose natural fibers like cotton for newborn baby clothes. A baby could possibly be allergic to synthetic fabrics and develop a rash.

Make sure that the clothing is not too tight or too loose. Clothes that are too tight may restrict a baby’s circulation, and if they are too loose, the baby may get tangled up in them.

If you have been blessed with a precious baby, take the time to inspect the baby clothes before putting them on your child. Run a finger over the seams and edges of the clothing to check for scratchiness. If the clothes fit well, pass the comfort and safety tests, and they are cute too – well that last one is a bonus.
