blogging

Since I’ve been writing a little mini series on blogging this week – I am jumping into Mama Kat’s writing workshop at the last minute to answer the question – What does blogging mean to me.

I started blogging a little over 4 years ago and have struggled, at times, to keep up with it. I often  wonder why I don’t just give it up.

I started my blog knowing nothing about internet business but determined to do something besides parenting. I gave up my career to stay home with my kids – and was going to be just 2 kids and a few years of my life – turned into 4 kids and fourteen years. I love being a mom – but I needed something else to challenge me, something that didn’t have anything to do with cute little people.

Blogging – for me was an outlet.

But the learning curve was high and the rewards (meaning moolah) was not rolling in. Everyone else with a website seemed to know so much more than I, and seemed to be much more successful.

Blogging became extremely time consuming. And yet I trudged on.

I read everything I could find about creating a successful blog. I followed one web guru and then another and then another. And I learned a lot.

But I didn’t blog much. And yet I still could not give up.

And then I got an offer – from someone that wanted to buy my blog. The offer was reasonable, but on an emotional level – way to low for all the time spent.

And that is when I knew the answer to the question – What does blogging mean to me. The real question is “what does THIS blog mean to me?”

Over the years – this blog has become an old friend. It is a neglected friendship with oh, so much potential.

And so I have resolved to put the time and energy into making this site shine.

Join the conversation – and tell me – what does blogging mean to you.

Oh, you have a blog? – This is a question that a lot of people ask me, especially when I sheepishly mention to them that I happen to have a website (actually a few). I started this site as a way to work from home – and have used it to experiment with different ideas [...]

Blog 365 has Begun

Happy New Year! And with the new year comes something called Blog 365. The challenge is to write a blog post for each of the 365 days of 2008. Crazy, I know. But the rules are flexible. You need to write 1 post per day on any of your blogs, NOT each one. I happen [...]
