time management

It is funny how the most simple things can create havoc with your day.

Things like unloading the dishwasher.

My Dishwasher Was King of the Kitchen

Years ago, this would be my undoing.

In the interest of saving energy, I would wait until the dishwasher was completely full to run it.

Morning, noon, or night – it did not matter. When it was full – that was the time to run it.

Unfortunately, the approach does not work with a busy family.

The machine would either be full of clean dishes midday, and since no one (namely, me) had time to unload smack in the middle of the day – dirty dishes would pile up in the sink.

Or the dishwasher would be running at dinner time – when we needed clean dishes for our meal.

My kitchen was chaos – and my dishwasher was in charge.

I realized then that it was high time for me to take over.

How I Took Control

I started running the dishwasher every night – no matter how full or empty it was. And I put away the clean dishes every morning, first thing.

I put my kitchen on a schedule that fit with my schedule.

That simple little change brought a huge amount of order to my life.

What is Controlling You?

This story might be about unloading the dishwasher – but the same idea for organizing can be applied to anything.

Stop and take the time to examine any part of your life that is controlling you.

What can you do about it? What little change can you make to turn it around and put an end to the “madness”.

Stumped?

Don’t suffer alone – tell us about it here. And maybe together we can brainstorm some good solutions.

One Family Calendar

Parenting Tips for Time Management

Writing parenting tips for time management is a bit of an oxymoron for me. After all, I certainly could be managing my time better. Some days are better than others (I think we really should get every other day off – so we can spend the one in between preparing ourselves for the next) but [...]
